Skaven Plague Lord

I would like to thank Mark Carlisle for contributing to our site. Mark is a Golden Demon winning painter and it is a pleasure to be able to show his amazing work here in the Legions Games Master's Workshop

This mini was painted for Oz GD 07. I had finished 2 other serious entries for 40k and wanted to do some less serious entries in fantasy single. I did not expect it to place, as it was in a hotly contested category, and sure enough it did not. I was not fussed with model choice, so a local GW staff wanted to see what I could do with the skaven plague lord.

I added a bulbous belly with pustules and made his pecs a bit rounder to match the bigger belly. For colours, I wanted the plague lord's skin gave the impression he was part rat, part human, not just all rat.

I tried some blood splatter on the stone, but its a bit obscured. I also wanted more practice with masking fluid and making interesting patterns on shields. This model also gave me more practice with trying to blend smoothly all over. The runes on the skulls were a last minute addition. The base was also the first time I experimented with the partial broken away look.
